Basketball Camp with NBA Guest Coach Mario West: What Denver Families Need to Know

Jun 11, 2026 | Spotlight Articles

If you’ve been looking for a basketball summer camp in Denver that goes beyond the basics, this is the one worth knowing about.

Rain Basketball Denver’s summer camps are co-hosted by Mario West, a former NBA player who spent time with the Atlanta Hawks and built his career at the highest level of the sport. He’s not a mascot or a meet-and-greet addition to the program. He’s on the court all week, coaching your child.

Our Mission

Developing confident athletes and strong leaders through elite basketball training, competitive play, and character-building experiences that prepare them for success on and off the court.

Who is Mario West

Mario West played in the NBA after a standout college career. He’s known for being an elite defender, the kind of player coaches put on the floor when they need someone with discipline and intensity. Those same qualities come through when he works with youth athletes. He is direct, demanding in the best way, and the kids respond to him.

What he brings to Rain Basketball Denver’s summer camps isn’t just a resume. It’s a way of coaching that comes from years of being coached at the highest level, and then passing that knowledge down in a way kids can actually absorb.

What a Denver camp week looks like

Sessions are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM, held at the Christ the King in the Denver metro area. Five separate week-long camps run June through early August, which means families from Aurora, Lakewood, Westminster, Thornton, Centennial, and Englewood have multiple options to fit their summer schedule.

Campers will get instruction from Mario West alongside a full staff of USA Basketball Gold-certified coaches. Kids are coached at their level. A beginner and a travel ball player are both going to be challenged and both going to grow.

The skill development side

Each day follows a structured curriculum covering ball handling, footwork, shooting mechanics, defensive positioning, and game-situation decision-making. The coaching isn’t about running drills until the clock runs out. It’s about building habits that stay with a player after camp is over.

Parents who bring their kids back year after year consistently point to the same thing: the skills their child developed in camp week show up in their team season. The fundamentals stick.

Why Rain?

Rain symbolizes growth, resilience, and new beginnings. Just as rain nourishes the ground for future harvest, our program invests in young athletes — equipping them with skills, values, and opportunities to thrive both on and off the court.
