Why Denver Kids Are Spending Their Summers on the Basketball Court (And Loving It)
Colorado summers are genuinely great. Mountains, trails, sunshine, all of it. And yet, every June, families from Aurora, Lakewood, Westminster, Thornton, Centennial, and across the Denver metro show up at the International School of Denver to put their kids to work on a basketball court for four hours a day.
They come back the next week, too. Here’s why.
Our Mission
Developing confident athletes and strong leaders through elite basketball training, competitive play, and character-building experiences that prepare them for success on and off the court.
The Camp That Actually Moves
A lot of summer programs for kids are fine. They’re safe, they’re structured, and they fill the time. Rain Basketball summer camp is not that. From the first warmup on Monday morning, the pace is high and the coaching is specific. Kids are not just shooting around while someone blows a whistle. They are learning, being corrected, drilling, competing, and having a genuinely good time doing it.
That combination of fun and intensity is harder to pull off than it sounds. The Rain Basketball staff has been doing it for 15 years and 8,000-plus athletes. They know how to hold a gym full of 6-to-16-year-olds.
Coach Stephen, Coach Alex, and the People Behind the Program
One of the things that comes up constantly from Denver and Aurora families is the coaches by name. That’s meaningful. When a parent tells you their kid talks about Coach Stephen at the dinner table, it means the coach made an impression that matters beyond the drill they ran.
The coaching staff at Denver Rain is invested in these kids as people. They know who needs to be pushed and who needs to be encouraged. They understand that a 10-year-old from Lakewood who doesn’t know any of the other kids in the gym needs something different from a 15-year-old from Aurora who’s been playing organized ball for years.
“My son is a disciplined athlete who values hard work and truly understands what it means to be a student athlete. Coach Stephen and Coach Alex have instilled a strong work ethic in my son.”
— Fred, Denver Rain Parent
The NBA Guest Instructor Moment
One of the genuinely exciting things about Rain Basketball summer camps is the NBA guest instructor element. Former professional players co-host camp weeks and work directly with the athletes.
Watch a 9-year-old from Westminster get a tip on their jump shot from someone who played at the highest level and see how they carry that with them for the rest of the week. It’s the kind of moment that makes a summer unforgettable.
How Summer Camp Connects to Year-Round Development
A lot of families from Centennial and Englewood who start with a single camp week end up in year-round programs. Skills Academy. Competitive teams. The path is there for families who want it.
Summer camp is often the first handshake. It’s where kids find out they love it, or love it more than they thought. And it’s where coaches get to see what an athlete is working with and where they can go.

Why Rain?
Rain symbolizes growth, resilience, and new beginnings. Just as rain nourishes the ground for future harvest, our program invests in young athletes — equipping them with skills, values, and opportunities to thrive both on and off the court.
